Sound Blade Medical has developed a platform based on an integrated, miniaturized, image-guided ultrasound histotripsy endoscope. The imaging component, located in the central portion of the endoscope, consists of a high resolution 30 MHz phased array transducer. The therapeutic component, surrounding the central imaging array, consists of a 5 MHz annular “histotripsy” array.

Our Technology

About Histotripsy

Focused ultrasound therapy without heating is a relatively new method of homogenizing tissue referred to as “histotripsy”. It works by inducing cavitation bubbles from the tissue itself but only at the ultrasound beam focus using short, high-pressure pulses that cross the tissue cavitation threshold. When the bubbles collapse only liquified tissue remains.

Advantages

Non-thermal

Unlike other ablation methods like Radiofrequency Ablation and Coblation, our technology does not use heat, thereby minimizing scar tissue formation.

Non-invasive

Our device is non-contact, and does not create superficial wounds. The risk of infection is minimized, a common complication with ablation devices.

Precision

With sharp cutting boundaries and the advantage of tissue selectivity, our technology offers real-time precision targeting.
